“Want more Fury? We’ll be announcing our third season for 2013-2014 in June! More Shakes, more Young Performers Production and the return of Short Attention Span Theater! Sign up to receive the latest and greatest from Fury Theatre and be the first to hear about our surprise production in Fall of 2013!
Fury Theatre proudly presents our second annual Shakespeare in the Park production with the Bard’s Much Ado About Nothing directed by Mark Dodge, artistic director and co-founder of Fury Theatre’s outreach program, The Shakespeare All-Stars.
Sigh no more, ladies! Much Ado is a playful romp of deceptive matchmaking, rumors and one of Shakespeare’s most recognizable songs! Can Beatrice, Benedick, Hero and Claudio find everlasting happiness in Messina? Or will Don John, the Prince’s half brother, stir up irreparable and malicious mischief? Directed full of life and action in the Fury Theatre style and staged on the green at the historic Berger Park Cultural Center, the Bard’s characters will sing, swoon, swagger and have audiences young and old singing “Hey nonny nonny!” Guests are welcome to picnic in the park and enjoy Chicago’s beautiful lakefront. Rain or Shine!
Much Ado About Nothing
Centered on the eternal struggle between the sexes, Much Ado also poses serious questions about gender roles and how much they've evolved, or not, since Shakespeare's time. While the most engaging relationship to watch develop is between impetuous Beatrice (Arin Mulvaney) and cocksure Benedick (Patrick Bromley), Casey Long's Borachio provides gleeful Chris Farley-meets-Stratford-upon-Avon comic relief.
